I would love to see a smarter bread of Lync phone. I have lost count of the amount of hours wasted configuring Lync phones. They should be simple, plug and play inside and outside the corporate network and have adequate logging. I would love to see a touch screen interface running something similar to the mobile client.
The Lync Phone Edition Phones should be able to set permanent Call FWDs. Certain Receptions don't want a Response Group (they are temps and not real AD users) and need a device (Common Area Phone) that can be manually changed to route the reception call to various mobiles and ect...

It is ok with 15 minutes for a client logged in to a computer. Because you are active at the computer.
But you are not that active on a phone edition the same way so it goes yellow after a couple of minutes. And then other people wont try to call you since you look away.

I would presume these phone would get limited lync functionality: basic presence like on a call and available, and some other limitations.
Conferencing is so core to the UCMA APIs and Lync as a whole, but there is no mechanism to transfer conferences once in the attendant console.
In the PBX world, the conference gets dropped and the caller is transferred. Something like that is better then nothing.
It is great that Lync integrates into Exchange 2010 OWA.
A great improvement would be the ability to book Lync Online Meetings through OWA.

The current response groups are incredibly basic. I'd like to see something a bit more advanced even if its not a full fledged solution.

There are tons of very expensive add on ACD/Contact center solutions but MS could make this part of the product functional with some small improvements.
The use of RDP for desktop sharing is very slow over limited WAN links and wastes a lot of bandwidth. They should either find a way to allow RDP to be tuned for < 100k of bandwidth or find a better engine.
It would be nice to have these, just like in Exchange. That way, name changes and other issues can be more streamlined, and less cumbersome.
