Lync Phone Edition should be extendable
Developers should have hooks into the API (either through a connected Lync Client SDK or some other means) to push content to this device and/or interact with it better and be able to control its operations.

When a user signes into lync which has a lync phone connected via USB is prompted to enter password again. This is a nuisance, why cant the authentication occur using SSO?
Lync Common Area Phones which are USB connected to a computer, do not automatically sign in the user when he logs on to the USB connected computer.
The user has to sign out the common area phone and sign in himself, we would love to see it automated.
It would be great to get support for 802.1x network authentication in phone edition including passthru on any additional Ethernet ports on the back of the phone.
As it stands at the moment if you have an 802.1x deployed you cannot use if with Phone edition and also need to double up on the switch ports you need for each desk that get a phone.
The ability to import firmware updates from the Control Panel would be nice.
the Windows Lync client lets you have different ringtones for your calls, team calls, response groups and private calls. It would be nice if this could also be done on Lync Phone Edition.
It should be noted also that snom phones have the ability, although there are only 3 ringtone options (Regular, Forwarded and Private) which is not as many as the Lync client itself.
Device locking is only set for global or sites. Make it available for user scope. I want my conference room phones to have no device locking and don't want to use common area objects (we use exchange resource room accounts that are lync enabled).
Music on Hold button on Lync Phone Edition should play music even if there is no call queue involved.
calls should not dissappear when answered with lync phone edition with USB better together.
In the Transfer Directly to and Consult Then Transfer option it should have the option to pick the user's voicemailbox as well as their numbers.
For those of us working somewhere other than GMT-8 it would be nice if the phone edition support this to remove one more step in setting up phones.
The Aries phones are great but Lync does need a certified cordless device with presence & phonebook integration.
Polycom Kirk is part way there but expensive for small deployments.
Most traditional PBX systems have the ability to place handsets into paging groups for announcements/pages. Having customers with paging requirements purchase entire dedicated overhead speaker paging systems is not an acceptable workaround.
