One big issue with Lync is, IMO, the client version fragmentation. If you run the great script from Pat Richards "Get-CsConnections" in a one or two years old Lync deployments, I bet you can see many version of PC and Mac clients. The reason could be many: the customer do not have WSUS, or maybe no one correctly manage it! The question is: if I can centrally manage the firmware for IP Phone (LPE and 3PIP), why I cannot ...more »
IMO is a big mistake for MS to have a full Lync client and a free Lync Basic. Lync costs should be bound to activated feuture only. The client should be only one for PC and free, like the Lync Mobile clients. This could improve the software distribution across the customer's clients, because the customer do not have to choose witch client version to install, but only witch feature (and CAL) to enable for users, and last ...more »
At this moment 3PIP phone vendors have to create it's own version of BToE PC client and add the function to the phone fw.
The results are not so good and very different between vendors, so the user experience is not uniform.
I think MS should add a standard BToE component into Lync Client, so the 3PIP vendors only need to add the BToE to the phone code, and the IT stuff do not need to add a separete BToE client.
I do not understand why MS made the LCP management part for "Unassigned Number" but you have to use PS to create and edit the Announcements. Please add the LCP part for Announcement too!
Lync has many Keyboard Shortcut, the one that miss is one for Call Pickup. Scenario: many EV users, only Lync client 2013 is used, no IP Phones. If a user is member of a CallPickup Group it need to place a call to the CP number to answer a collague's call. I think the client should: - autodetect if the user is member of a CallPickup Group and the number of that group - offer a native Keyboard Shortcut to quick dial the ...more »
Please add the support of public wildcard SSL certificates on Lync Front-End and other roles
At this moment the default 20sec timeout for call forwarding could be managed by users or via SEFAUtil.
I think could be more practice if this (and some other call forwarding option) became Global Option, managed by a new Policy. The administrator could set it for all, or for some Group of users, could set it mandatory or not and so on....
I think that Office Web App is a good solution to manage the PP presentation to PC, Mac and iPad, but the requirement to be a separate server is not so good.
I think could be better to have the option to install it on the Front-End, very practice in a single FE deployment.
In more complex deployment the stand-alone OWA server remain the best solution.
I think could result in a bettere user experience to place the PowerPoint presentation loading bar in the main confernece Windows, where at this moment you see only a generic "Loading in progress", without a bar or percentage.
You can see a bar only is you "hover" on the monitor icon, but this is not very intuitive.
This is a very common feature of traditional PBX: the ability for a Call Pickup Group member to see who is calling and than choose to pickup the call or not.
At this moment if a user is member of a Call Pickup Group there is no way to preview the caller ID.
Every of our customers ask for this feature.
Replace the useless Home Page in Lync Control Panel with some Real-time info, for eg. number of active call, connected user, and so on...
May be useful if the Lync Mobile client could set the user's status "In a call" during a traditional call on the smartphone.
